Welcome to the EMI Training Academy!
The European Movement International organises regular trainings on European affairs. The trainings give participants the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the European Union and discover all the possibilities open to them for their future careers.
The trainings vary in content in order to give students the possibility to choose the programme that best suits their interests and areas of research. The European Movement’s extensive network opens doors to all levels of policy and decision-making processes and to a wide-range of speakers.
Meetings take place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where participants are free to ask questions and express their points of view.
This is the perfect occasion to leave your textbooks behind and to come and meet professionals and visit the European institutions! The Training Academy is also a great multicultural experience as students from different countries get to spend a week together and learn about each other’s cultures.
Many long-lasting friendships begin at the Training Academy and the EMI keeps in close touch with alumni, always ready to support them whenever possible by facilitating contacts with EU officials, providing references or explaining procedures.
Students receive a certificate after the training.
3 options
Brussels
The week in Brussels includes visits to the European Parliament, European Council, European Commission, Economic and Social Committee, and/or Committee of the Regions. Students meet MEPs, professionals from advocacy groups, think tanks, NGOs, youth organisations, European political parties and other following the specific interests of the students registered. One day is also dedicated to an excursion to Bruges and a visit to the College of Europe!
Students get to discuss the internal workings of the European institutions with high-level officials, and also learn about each speaker’s personal experience and career path which serves as an inspiration to all participants. Find out what it’s like to work for a European institution, political party, or NGO, how to get your ideas or projects across as a lobbyist or a member of the EESC, or get some direct insight from key players on current “hot topics”!
Some former speakers at the EMI Training Academy*:
- Ms Mercedes Bresso, (at the time) President of the Committee of the Regions
- Mr Richard Corbett, Member of the Cabinet of Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Council
- Mr Pat Cox, former President of the European Parliament and of the EMI
- Mr Alexey Polishchuk, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU
- Mr Pirkka Tapiola, Principal Advisor, Strategic planning unit, European External Action Service
*all former programmes are available on the page “past programmes”
Students also have some free time to visit Brussels and its surroundings. Visit Brussels’ famous Atomium, the Manneken Pis, the chocolate museum and get a taste of Belgian gastronomy! From Brussels you can also easily go to Antwerp, Luxemburg, Amsterdam or Paris!
By the end of the week, students will have a good overview of the different possibilities open to them … and tips on how to go about getting a job in the “Brussels bubble”!
Strasbourg
September 2013 will be our first visit to Strasbourg!
Strasbourg offers the opportunity to visit the European Parliament during a plenary session, as well as to visit other institutions such as the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights or the European Ombudsman.
Visits to other interesting places such as the headquarters of ARTE television, the Assembly of the Regions or Strasbourg University can also be organised. Not to mention the cultural visits to the many historical monuments, museums and other sites in Strasbourg, such as the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, a masterpiece of gothic art or the “petite France” quarters, a picturesque district of the old city.
During their stay, students will get to meet with lobbyists present for the plenary session, representatives of NGOs, journalists, and other persons of interest following the specific profiles of the students.
This week is a unique opportunity to see a different facet of the EU and to get a more diverse overview of the various institutions present in Strasbourg. As in the Brussels session, students will learn about the wide variety of opportunities open to them and will get a better insight on how to network and plan their European careers.
